Managing Depression
I am not really an expert of depression nor do I claim to be one. But since, this is a very popular topic and because I am also an occasional sufferer, I am enticed to talk about depression here on my blog. So for our educational benefits, let’s talk on depression today.
In the first place, what is depression? A lot of experts summarized depression as a psychological feeling of misery and self-imbalance. It must be noted that this is not considered to be an odd feeling although in all honesty not all of us may experience the way that others are having. Under the power of depression, you will most likely feels different and aloft from the real world.
As much as there are various types of persons and personalities, the handling of depression can fall in various ways. And this we have to acknowledge from the very start so as not to sow confusion. What we should rather so is locate the common thread and the common ways on properly managing depression.
The second question we should tackle should be the origin of depression. In other words, why do we feel such kind of emotional roller coaster? In a lot of cases, the cause could be coming from something that went awry in the family, in the surroundings, and in our private life. Depression can then be considered as the body’s response to disappointments, disillusionment, and environmental impediments which most likely could be unexpected in nature.
In mild depression, the strange emotions do not last long enough to cause some interruptions in our lives. For instance, there are people who are strong enough to take things lightly. However, there are also people whoa re more inclined to hang on with the depression state which affects their personal and interpersonal relationships, the mental and social state, or even their judgment. And for this kind of people, it would be good to learn something or two on the many ways buoyant people manage depression.
One, optimistic people is always prepared and ready for second chances. These types of individuals usually take struggles as a personal challenge and so they are giving second chances to work instead of just being victimized of the situation. They are decided not to remain in a certain situation especially if they did something wrong. They learned the lessons out of the situations well enough for the next battle. Depression due to defeat can be easily offset by positive thinking and looking forward for second chances.
Second, optimistic people manage depression by viewing things not from a pessimistic point of view. This point is quite obvious. These people are strong believer in the sacredness of life and possible heavenly intercession. Everything is taken as just a trial given to a person to make that person stronger and wiser even if failure may happen the first time. They believe that divine intervention is what helps us continue in the challenges faced everyday and they don’t simply give up on themselves and the things they believe on.
Third, optimistic people are never afraid to face the challenges before their very eyes. To surrender is never an option and they deal with depression by not preoccupying themselves with its causes and they could easily redirect their concentration to more meaningful activities which at the end of the day means they already forgot the whole thing. Of course, this will never be an easy thing to do. By not letting depression crawl to them, they can then have the power to deflect their attention. I think this one of the many things optimistic people are known for.
All of the above are just some of the protection mechanism we could adopt in the fight against depression. Yes, there are occasions when we feel we cannot continue living everyday normally, we have to deal with it properly and conquer it with all our might so that we will keep our sanity intact. These might not be true to all types of people but if we as to keep our sanity intact.
We must be victorious in combating and managing with the feeling of depression to maintain our sense of reason and individuality unbroken.
