Putting A Drainage

Putting A Drainage

Any homeowner knows that a home could be his most expensive possession. It is good to know that no matter how beautiful the interior and lawn of the house if the drainage is not clear then the house can be problematic. And if there is any foul odor present all the time one cannot live comfortably with the home.

Basically a drainage system is built underground. A drainage system is a facility to dispose of liquid waste. Drainage is the system of removing water from surface or sub-surface from an area. Water can be natural or artificial.

It is necessary to have a perfect drainage system for every home. This drainage system should have right type of openings for the flow of water otherwise the water will get clogged. There might be a chance of erosion in the foundation, making the building unstable and create danger to the living beings. A drainage system is usually built with cemented wall with tanks to store and pipes connected according the size and configuration.

Basically drainage water can be categorized into two parts. Foul water and surface water. The foul water is the water that comes from wash basins and wash rooms. The only surface water is the rain water.

In older times the existing rainwater pipes are often discharged to the foul drain. But in modern times the foul water and the surface water are built in separate drains. With this the rainwater is discharged to a surface water sewer. Remember though that draining rainwater to these points is not really creating the foul air.

Before the drainage work takes place one must ask for guidance from the building control department. One must not do it if he/she is unaware about the drainage system covering his house. If the drain pipe or its any fittings is to be made slippery than it is suggested not to use any oil or lubricating material as it may cause risk by developing a leak and thus making the fittings loose.

Before using all the drain pipes must undergo some technical conditions so that they do not leak before concealing. It is essential that these drain pipes must cross the essential test before it is used. Hence the cost, the pain and the time will be reserved.

Normally, the pipe and fittings are entirely held up by the weight adjoining the pipe. If they are not supported when being tested, the internal pressure may partly thrust the fittings apart causing them to escape. Old drains must never be tested as they cannot withstand the internal pressure.

Keep your drainage smooth flowing and you can be sure to be enjoying your home for many years to come!
